Puerto Pollensa Holidays 2013

Situated in a horseshoe bay beneath the Tramuntana Mountains, Puerto Pollensa is a favourite resort for beach lovers, cyclists and adrenaline junkies who visit Majorca.

Puerto Pollensa Holidays

Pollensa Beach is the main place to hit, with lots of British bars and cafes on a long stretch of seafront. Meanwhile, Voramar Beach is a quieter place to relax or try out the Pine Walk along the promenade. Holidays to Puerto Pollensa also can include plenty of beach activities including swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing, and surfing – whatever you and your family want. While you’re there, be sure to check out the sand sculptures just off the main road. Professional sand artists work here and they make new designs all the time.

If you like cycling then you’ll probably know that Puerto Pollensa is home to lots of bicycle trails, and the landscape is ideal for riding all year round. Whether you’re on two wheels or just on foot, the Tramuntana Mountains are also worth exploring and you can walk to Cala San Vicente and back in an afternoon, either by following a guidebook or taking an organised tour.

Which Puerto Pollensa hotel is right for me?

  • Pollensa Park Hotel and Spa has 3 Stars and offers a chic piano bar, outdoor pool with an area for children, a buffet restaurant and a poolside snack bar. You can also choose the All-Inclusive option to keep an eye on your budget.
  • The Duva Pollensa Aparthotel is great value for a 4 Star hotel, with a spa, volleyball, pool, bicycle hire and WiFi access. There's also show cooking in the restaurant.
  • Hotel Illa D'Or is a 4 Star property that Agatha Christie once stayed in. It's right by the promenade and offers beautiful sea views and gardens.

Exploring the Area

Pollensa Town itself is inland from the resort and it’s where you can get a sense of rustic Majorcan living. Sit in one of the squares and watch the world go by, visit the museum or walk through the winding streets. Calvari Hill backs onto the town and it’s worth walking up the Via Crucis to get to the top – this is a set of 365 steps, one for each day of the year, and there’s a 13th Century statue at the top as well as panoramic views of the bay. Visitors who are staying during Good Friday can also catch a torchlight procession down the hill. In the summer the town hosts a music festival and there are several Majorcan fiestas throughout the year, such as a medieval re-enactment in August called the Mares de Deu dels Angels.

If you want to explore the surrounding area then Alcudia is only 8km away. In the summer the kids will enjoy visiting the Hidropark here, and the town itself is great for a cultural day out. You can also drive easily to Formentor, where there’s a lighthouse that tourists love to visit. Agatha Christie stayed in the town to write a short story collection, Problems at Pollensa Bay, and the sea views might just inspire you too.

Puerto Pollensa food caters for even the fussiest eaters: there’s a wide variety of world restaurants to choose from, including Indian and Italian, whilst Los Zarzales offers traditional Majorcan cooking. Lots of eateries have Wi-Fi access and are open until late. If you love fresh seafood, be sure to head over to the marina where you can take your pick from several fish restaurants. Homesick tourists can always head to the resort’s British pubs for traditional home cooked meals, or even track down fish and chips. Every week there’s also a market in Pollensa Old Town, which is really convenient for picking up fresh produce such as local olives.

Nightlife in the resort is geared towards discos and bars rather than clubbing, and most holidaymakers enjoy going to Chivas Disco, Las Batacudas or Kudos. Chivas has been running since 1969 and it’s the central spot for a night out. Live music bars in Puerto Pollensa are also popular, or there are several pubs to choose from if you fancy a more relaxing evening.
