Holidays in Poland

Poland is perhaps one of Europe’s most underrated countries. It has a great deal to offer travellers, from the untamed scenery of its mountainous south, where you can enjoy outdoor activities, to the intoxicating drama of the old towns of Krakow, Zamosc and Gdansk, and the breathtaking wilderness of the Bialowieza National Park and the Great Malsurian Lakes in the north.

Historic cities and stunning landscapes await you on holidays to Poland

The Polish capital Warsaw was almost completely destroyed during World War II, when it was home to Europe's most infamous ghetto. Today the city is a mix of Soviet and contemporary influences, with a meticulously reconstructed old town and a positive, liberal and forward-thinking population.

Krakow is the most popular destination for travellers on holidays in Poland. This is the country's royal capital, and boasts incredibly well-preserved architectural riches that have almost inexplicably emerged from numerous wars largely unscathed. Discover more about Krakow Holidays

Poland has an impressive and diverse cultural heritage that reaches far and wide. The former textile city of Lodz is home to a film school where the likes of Roman Polanski and Krzysztof Kieslowski cut their teeth. Toruå was home to the astronomer Nicholas Copernicus, and Warsaw gave the world such luminaries as Marie Curie and Frederick Chopin. Gdansk is the country's main port and the commercial nerve-centre of the north. It’s most famous as the birthplace of Lech Walesa's Solidarity movement, which was established in 1980 and ultimately lead Poland out of communism and into democracy in 1989.

Poland's natural beauty is as diverse as it is remarkable. On the Baltic coast, there are some outstanding sandy beaches, as well as the Slowinski National Park with its otherworldly forests, swamps and sand dunes. In the country's northeast you’ll find the Great Malsurian Lakes, a paradise for boat enthusiasts with its hundreds of crystal-clear lakes broken up by dense forest. The limestone areas, caves and medieval castles of the Krakow-Wielun Upland are another highlight, but the area around the Carpathian Mountains in the far south is arguably the jewel in Poland’s crown.
